FACEBOOK introduces MESSENGER ROOMS.
Messenger Rooms a novelty to feel close even if far away.
What is it and how does it work?
Group video calling tool arrives from Facebook “Let’s stay connected”
The novelty challenges apps such as Zoom and HouseParty, which are tokenized at this time of quarantine and social distancing. Our Mark Zuckerberg Could he just sit on his hands? Of course not!
If you haven’t heard about it yet, Messenger Rooms has arrived, Messenger’s new service that allows you to make video calls, up to 50 users, and participate in the same conversation from all devices, free of charge and with no time limit.
One of the most interesting features is that you do not need to be a Facebook member to participate. Anyone who clicks on the invitation link provided by the creator of the virtual room can participate.
You can create a virtual room either on social Facebook or on the instant messaging app Messenger.
To create a room on Messenger or Facebook you need to be able to appear on video and send your own audio, since within video calls, in fact, it is impossible to send text messages. If you do not have earphones/cassette and webcam, Messenger Rooms prevents room creation.
To initiate the conversation, the service does not make calls, but sends invitations in the form of links to potential participants.
Messenger Rooms can be used for distance learning and work, but also as a place to meet friends, thanks in part to the presence of filters and the ability to customize the location, from the beach to a birthday party, with virtual and augmented reality.
How to create a room on Facebook
You can find the option to open a Messenger Rooms on Facebook and Messenger app, at the top of the news feed, both from desktop and mobile.
To proceed to create the video call, simply tap the button depicting a video camera with a + inside. At this point it is possible to choose:
- the type of activity (e.g. “free talk,” “business meeting,” “family reunion,” etc.),
- users who can participate in the conversation,
- The date and time when the video call will start.
Once you have confirmed the creation of the room you can share the link to participate in the conversation to whomever and wherever you prefer. Clicking on the link from a computer opens a browser window, while from mobile the Messenger app or default browser is launched.
Messenger Rooms has been available for testing in Italy for just a few days (to expand globally later) and can be used on smartphones, tablets and computers.
In short, Facebook does not want to miss the train of a market, that of video calls, that is destined to be increasingly central in so many areas and above all, Messengere Rooms goes in the direction of the integration of platforms so much pursued by Facebook.
